Petition

On Dec. 7, the Columbia City Council voted unanimously to put the decision of allowing downtown safety camera on the April 2010 ballot. This was after the council voted 5-2 not to approve the amendment itself in that same meeting. Mayor Darwin Hindman and Second Ward Councilman Jason Thornhill both voted in favor of it.

Next Steps:
The issue of implementing downtown safety cameras will be seen next on the April 6 ballot when any Columbia citizen may vote for or against the issue. If the initiative passes, Colulmbia Police Chief Ken Burton will have authority to deploy downtown cameras where and when he deems appropriate.

Please mark your calendars to vote on April 6, 2010 in favor of downtown safety cameras, and help keep Columbia safe.

Again, the Keep Columbia Safe petition was a great success! We turned in 2,949 valid signatures—that's 370 more than were required. Thanks again to all who signed the petition—we couldn't have done it without you!
